“The Yellow Boat”

June 17, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

“The Yellow Boat,” is the new production by Groove Theatre Company, in the George B. Todd Performance Hall at Dorchester Center for the Arts. As part of its mission to support the performing arts in Dorchester County, DCA is pleased to have Groove Theatre call the Center home.

Directed for Groove by E.T. Wilford, “The Yellow Boat” is a beautiful children’s show about the resilience of a child’s life in the face of terminal illness, a glorious affirmation of the strength and courage of all children. It is based on the true story of David and Sonja Saar’s son, Benjamin, who was born with congenital hemophilia, and who died in 1987 at the age of eight of AIDS related complications. This remarkable voyage of Benjamin was extensively developed and widely produced in America for many years, always to ovations. Appropriate for families with children aged five and up. Jahkai Hall, a recent graduate of Cambridge South Dorchester High School, will play the demanding role of Benjamin Saar.

Showtimes for “The Yellow Boat”: June 17, 18, 19 and June 24, 25, 26. Friday and Saturdays 7:00 p.m., Sunday matinees 2:00 p.m. Groove Theatre will be offering talkbacks with the cast following both Sunday matinee performances.
