Painting with Wool, Accenting with Embroidery
April 23 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm$100.00
This one-day workshop instructed by Laura Rankin is a way to deepen and embellish the details of a 2D needle felted piece. First, students will create a “painting” using wool batt on a 9” x 12” (or smaller) craft felt backing. (Students may also bring the piece begun in the April 9 workshop.) Texture and dimension will be added to a wool “painting” with the simplest of embroidery stitches, added beads, buttons, etc. to enhance and enliven the art. Several basic embroidery techniques will be demonstrated. Students will learn basic techniques of composition, color blending and how to get the most from the wool for color interest and subtleties. All the workshop materials will be provided, including 9” x 12” pieces of craft felt for backing, embroidery thread and needles, a felting platform, felting needles and more than 50 colors of wool batt. Students are asked to bring a reference photo of what they’d like to “paint” with wool. Each participant leaves with their wool creation plus their own felting needle and foam pad, as well as a handout about techniques, suggested reading, and online material resources – everything needed to continue their own artistic journey. Students can bring work from the first workshop and new students are welcome as well.
Workshop cost: $65 Members and $100 Non-members + $20 Materials fee payable to instructor on first class date.
