One event on February 27, 2021 at 12:00 pm
All ages are invited to stop in and finish up the community tapestry. Write a personal message for hope and change on ribbon or fabric and then weave it into the tapestry. All materials provided or bring your own. No weaving experience needed! Social distancing and masks required.
DCA launched “Dorchester Cares: A Tapestry for Change” in partnership with the Social Action Committee for Racial Justice (SACRJ). It kicked off as a Juneteenth Community Arts Celebration on June 19, 2020. Barb Seese, Executive Director for Dorchester Center for the Arts and Omeaka Jackson, President and CEO for Harvesting Hope Youth and Family Wellness spearhead the project.
Other Eastern Shore county arts councils and leadership from the shore wide SACRJ have been involved as well. Doncella Wilson, Town of Denton Councilwoman, envisioned a social action project where “every community and every individual can be part of the solution for change”. As a result, A Tapestry for Change was born. Dorchester’s tapestry will join others for exhibition once completed.
