Ceramic Raku Workshop
September 26 @ 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm$25.00 – $110.00
DCA partners with Wednesday Morning Artists to present this ceramic workshop with visiting artist Brett Thomas.
Raku firing techniques originated in Japan, during the sixteenth century. Traditional Raku firing stems from Buddhist influences, particularly those connected to the Japanese tea ceremony. Ceramic Raku bowls were often used in these tea ceremonies, and those who practiced the tradition preferred the simplicity and natural beauty of the ceramic items.
Prior to the Raku firing there will pottery workshops to attend where students will create their own works of art. Work will then be bisque fired in preparation for the final Raku firing. Students must take one workshop, either wheel or handbuilding.
Fee is $75 for DCA members, $110 for non-DCA members, & $25 for college students 18-21 with proper ID.
