March Workshops

March just might be the time to discover a new arts experience! One and two-day workshops at DCA offer new mediums to explore, for both youth and adults.
March 3-4, (Friday 4:30-5:30 p.m., Saturday 4:00-5:00 p.m.) – Youth Introduction to Comic Book Illustration with Lee Reece. Two-day workshop learning proper page layout and character creation. Materials list will be shared with students after registration. Ages thirteen and older welcome.

March 4, 1:00-4:00 p.m. – 3D Needle Felting Workshop with Laura Rankin. Explore the world of 3-dimensional wool sculpting through needle felting. Learn basic techniques for needle felting rabbits, colorful eggs, birds or your own creation! All materials provided, including more than 50 colors of the wool batt.

Saturday March 18, 1:00-4:00 p.m. – 2D Needle Felting Workshop with Laura Rankin.
Explore painting with wool through 2D needle felting on craft felt backing. Make flat ornaments or pictures. All workshop materials provided. Students should bring a reference photo of what they would like to “paint” with wool. Embroidery floss and beads will be available for embellishments as well.

March 19, 6:30-8:30 a.m. Sunday Photography Workshop with Robert Sullivan. Location: Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Sunrise is a wonderful time for two reasons: it is when the wildlife is most active, and the quality of light is amazing and constantly changing. This workshop will provide information on photographing wildlife at Blackwater, as well as tips and techniques for photographing a sunrise. Participants will see – and photograph – the Blackwater refuge in ways they haven’t before.

For registration information on these and other activities at the Dorchester Center for the Arts, stop by 321 High Street, call 410-228-7782 or visit online at www.dorchesterarts.org.
