A Floral Symphony by Betty Papson

October/Front Gallery

Betty, who resides in Oxford, graduated with a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore, MD, and is a member of Easton’s Working Artists’ Forum, the Academy of Arts in Easton, and the Dorchester Center for the Arts. Over the years, Betty has taken workshops with a number of well-known artists which include Kenn Backhaus, Camille Przewodek, and Karen Rosasco.

As a fine artist, Betty began her career executing pen & ink house portraits. Her work is included in many private collections. Over the years she has pursued many other avenues of creative expression ranging from oil painting and pastel painting to collage, and hand-made papermaking, however, painting has remained her primary artistic passion. Betty has been juried into both the Oxford Art Fair and Easton’s Local Color Show. Her work has also been included in a number of group exhibits in galleries throughout the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

“For me, the best way to understand color and design is to observe nature and then take that understanding into the studio. I am continually awed with the beauty and mystery of nature – especially flowers, bouquets, and gardens. My hope is that my love of these will show in my paintings. Understanding that my artwork is a lifelong pursuit that is constantly evolving, I strive to celebrate the natural world around me, and the God who created it all.”
