Drawing for Beginners – Learning How to Use Line and Value

This class is for the beginner or artist that wants to learn about the basics of  drawing that underpins artwork. The class will include learning essential skills – line, value, perspective etc. and will transition participants from being able to create simple line drawings to producing more complex and realistic 3D artwork. The class will cover the use of graphite pencils, ink pen and charcoal as well as other mediums of interest. Minimum of 5 students, maximum of 10.

Materials List:
You can get art supplies from Michaels, Jerrys Arterama, Dick Blick and other craft stores or through Amazon

Essential:
Foam core, gator board or drawing board, 24” x 27” (approximately) – big enough to hold pages from your sketch book, or newsprint sheets
Sketch pad of drawing paper (9×12 or 11 x 14 suggested) – you can also bring newsprint paper sheets
Selection of Graphite drawing pencils 2H HB, 2B, 6B at a minimum
Waterproof ink pen e.g. Uni-ball
Vine Charcoal (soft, medium)
Kneaded eraser
White plastic eraser
Pencil sharpener and/or Utility knife with Snap-off blades
A few sheets of paper towel

Optional:
White Charcoal Pencil, Water Soluble graphite stick, A few paper-blending stumps/tortillons, various thicknesses, 1 or 2 small watercolor brushes (for blending and use with water-soluble graphite stick), Sanding block or sandpaper (220 grit), Small water container with lid (example: 1 quart yogurt container or 1 quart paint cup from Lowes)

Notes:
I will supply some different drawing paper as well as images for drawing and have some limited supplies of optional materials. Please bring personal reference photos if you prefer to use your own images.
Please bring an additional materials fee in class of $5 to cover photo, supplies and paper costs.
