Dorchester Cares: A Tapestry for Change

Dorchester Center for the Arts in partnership with the Social Action Committee for Racial Justice (SACRJ) launched “Dorchester Cares: A Tapestry for Change” as a Juneteenth Community Arts Celebration on June 19, 2020. Spearheaded by Omeaka Jackson, President and CEO for Harvesting Hope Youth and Family Wellness and Barb Seese, Executive Director for Dorchester Center for the Arts, this community arts project is being produced in tandem with other Eastern Shore county arts councils and leadership from the shore-wide SACRJ. This project came about through the efforts of Doncella Wilson, Town of Denton Councilwoman. Wilson envisioned a social action project that could show that “every community and every individual can be part of the solution for change”. The public is invited to participate by writing their personal message for hope and change, and weaving it into the tapestry. All materials will be provided, no weaving experience required! The tapestry will travel around the county through August and September. Watch for details on new locations.
